Qatar World Cup 2022

From November 21 to December 18 of the year 2022, a total of 32 countries will look for a new world champion at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

Alcohol policy

In Qatar, alcohol consumption in public is not allowed. Qatar is an Islamic country with strict rules on specific behaviours. Although, sports Minister Al-Ali has already indicated in a press statement that “a new, unprecedentedly high standard of excellence” will be in force by Qatar in 2022 for hospitality as the guest country.

This means that it is very likely and expected that beer and other alcoholic refreshments will be available for foreign guests in the hotels and marquees. However, this will not be the case outside, including in the stadiums.

Prices for alcoholic drinks have risen enormously since 2019 due to the introduction of a new tax measure. For a tray with 24 cans of Heineken, you now pay around 100 US dollars. Whether this measure will hold up during the 2022 World Cup remains to be seen. FIFA and several FIFA sponsors will not be happy about this. It lays down restrictions on beer brands like Heineken.
